Students Learn from the Masters
(24th November 2008)

School students from across Northern Ireland attended a Young Enterprise Masterclass, at which they heard hints and tips for creating a positive employment future.

Over 200 students listened to local marketing expert Niall McKeown of Ion Online Marketing who gave the students secrets of his success.

Niall McKeown said: “It is great to see so many young people getting excited about business and enterprise. I have seen fantastic creativity in the group today and I’m sure we are looking at some budding entrepreneurs of the future!”

The workshops, organised by Young Enterprise NI as the next step in its schools programme, are aimed at 14-18 year olds and designed to help students to think about opening their own business as a career option.

The Masterclass saw more than 200 students aged 14-18 years hear hints and tips from local enterprise experts on how to start their own business.

Jonathan Twinem, Development Manager with Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, said “Around 80,000 students in Northern Ireland will participate in Young Enterprise programmes this year. The Masterclass workshops help students take what they’ve learned throughout their years at school and apply it to their lives.”

During the Masterclass, students learned how to identify the key entrepreneurial skills required to start their own business, including who to approach concerning financial matters and business advice.

Students also participated in a variety of activities and left with their own personal folder to help them make the next step to opening their own business.

Young Enterprise is Northern Ireland’s foremost business and enterprise education charity and all its programmes are based on the principle of ‘learning by doing’, to promote a culture of enterprise from an early age. All activities are delivered by fully-trained business volunteers from partnership organisations and funded by a variety of public and private sector organisations.
